Bronx Chronicle endorses Cabrera for borough president

The Bronx Chronicle has endorsed City Councilman Fernando Cabrera for Bronx Borough President in the June 2021 Democratic Primary.
Term limit prevents current Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr from running for re-election.
Councilman Cabrera is one of seven Bronxites presently running to succeed Mr. Diaz.
According to the Bronx Chronicle, Councilman Cabrera has honorably served as the Council Member representing the 14th district in the West Bronx since January 2010.
"As Borough President, Cabrera will fight for bold and practical solutions that will address some of Bronx’s tremendous needs (job, educational, housing, healthcare and public safety) and will work to bring more resources to our borough. He will be a tremendous champion and booster for this borough as he weighs in on important land use proposals and development projects that need public approval," read the endorsement from the publication.
People First Democratic Club recently endorsed Cabrera for the Bronx borough president.
Cabrera touts himself as a Member of the City Council, who co-led the creation of the Cure Violence program and funded more security cameras for NYCHA developments and other residential developments than any other district in the city.
He passed the Tenants Bill of Rights and used the city budget process to fund the creation of affordable housing units in the Bronx and elsewhere. And he brought funding for the creation of new schools and technological upgrades to schools in his council district.
The Bronx Chronicle urged Bronxites to make Cabrera their first choice for Borough President during the June 22 elections.
This is the first year of ranked choice voting where every voter’s voice and choice will be heard and counted. Beginning this year, the Bronx and other parts of NYC will use Ranked Choice Voting in primary and special elections for local offices (e.g., city council, borough president, public advocate, comptroller and mayor). Voters can rank up to five (5) candidates in order of preference, instead of choosing just one. But voters can still vote for just one candidate, if preferred.

May 28 is the last day to register to vote — in-person or by mail — in the June primary.
Primary day is June 22, 2021. Polls open at 6 AM and close at 9 PM.
