A package of measures has signed into law by Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday are meant to improve services for victims and survivors of human trafficking, as well as bolster training.

At the same time, the new laws are aimed at strengthening awareness of human trafficking in New York.

“We must do everything in our power to end the scourge of human trafficking and protect thousands of individuals who fall victim to this abhorrent practice in New York,” Hochul said. “New Yorkers should know the signs of human trafficking and be ready to lend a hand to stand up for victims. I’m proud to sign this legislative package, which includes campaigns that will spread awareness and help make a meaningful difference in thousands of lives.”

The approved measures include requiring human trafficking-related curriculum to be included in alcohol training awareness, as well as requiring employees of lodging facilities to be trained to recognize victims of human trafficking.

Hocuhl also approved legislation that requires the state Thruway Authority to post information signs and cards to promote services for the victims of human trafficking. Truck stops, the Port Authority bus terminals and airports would also be required to post similar information for victims.
