The Indian Army on Monday has prevented attempts by certain civilian armed groups in Congo to loot its operating bases and Level III hospital there.

“Attempts to loot Indian Army operating bases and Level III hospital were thwarted by robust actions by Indian Peacekeepers strictly in accordance with the UN mandate and rules of engagement,” said the Indian Army officials.

The officials of the Indian Army added, “Indian Peacekeepers have ensured safety of UN personnel and property in locations of their deployment. There are reports that certain UN office complexes have been ransacked. The situation is being closely monitored”.

The Indian Army troops deployed in MONUSCO (United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo) are part of a multilateral United Nations peacekeeping force that has been contributing to the stabilisation of the strife-torn region in accordance with a UN mandate.
