The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol has formally subpoenaed Donald Trump.

According to the subpoena issued on Friday October 21, 2022, the committee demands Trump’s testimony and documents to prove his attempt to subvert the 2020 election and trigger the violent mob attack on the Capitol.

“We recognize that a subpoena to a former President is a significant and historic step,” Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., wrote in a letter to Trump on Friday. “We do not take this action lightly.”

“As demonstrated in our hearings, we have assembled overwhelming evidence, including from dozens of your former appointees and staff, that you personally orchestrated and oversaw a multipart effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election and to obstruct the peaceful transition of power,” they added.

It was reported that the panel’s request focused on information that the former president could provide.

It also cited numerous examples of former presidents, including John Quincy Adams and Gerald R. Ford, who testified before Congress after they left office.
