Palestinian Muslim woman, Ruwa Romman, wins Georgia House Rep election

A Palestinian Muslim woman, Ruwa Romman, has won a seat in the Georgia House of Representatives.

The elated Palestinian disclosed her victory in the United States midterm elections via her Twitter handle on Wednesday November 9, 2022.

Ruwa Romman was elected to become Georgia’s first Muslim woman in the state house and first Palestinian ever elected to any public office in the state .

“Congratulations on making history as the first Muslim woman to ever serve in the GA General Assembly,” Romman said.

“When we started this journey 10 months ago we made it a priority to be there for our entire community. We’ve knocked thousands of doors and engaged with countless stakeholders, and tonight’s result is the product of that hard work,” she added.

Commenting on Romman’s victory, @emergeamerica wrote, “Congratulations on making history as the first Muslim woman to ever serve in the GA General Assembly!

@herboldmoveusa wrote, “Unbelievably proud and honored to have supported Ruwa in this race. Let’s keep making histor @Ruwa4Georgia!!!! We know this is just the beginning.”

Romman won the seat for Georgia House of Representatives, District 97. She will now represent parts of west Gwinnett County.

The 29-year-old is now the first Muslim woman serving in the Georgia House of Representatives and the first Palestinian ever elected to any office in the state.
