Twenty-four years ago, February 4, 1999, Amadou was killed by four NYPD officer in the Bronx.

In commemoration of his life, on Saturday February 4, 2023, the 10th Annual Amadou Diallo Youth Arts and Sci-Tech Day was held at Bronx Community College.

Speaking about the event, one of New York leaders, Gene Adams, stated the annual event was aimed at commemorating the life of the late activist.

“We commemorated the promise and success of Amadou’s life by providing middle school, high school, and university students in the Bronx and Senegal with information on the need for social activism,” Adams said.

He added, “We also focused on the need for advanced education. This year we highlighted careers in the massive billion dollar video gaming industry.”

According to him, the video gaming industry involves many technical and creative skills such as computer coding, graphic design, merchandising, music production, more.

At the training, Mrs. Kadiatou Diallo, mother of Amadou, offered the students a very informative understanding of the type of creative and committed person her son was.

She encouraged the participants to work hard and strive for success the way Amadou did.

As a computer science student, Amadou enjoyed video games.

The guest contributors included keynote Duane Pierre of Connecticut based World Wide Youth Networks, one of a handful of Black video gaming groups and his team.

Also supporting the program was Jason Harris of Baltimore’s Black Robot, reggae producer Sydney Mills, and hip hop/reggae female group Worl A Girl, staff of the TRIO Pre-collegiate Program, Male Empowerment Network, the Senegalese American Bilingual School, and Science and Technology Entry Program.
