YESTERDAY, October 15th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer and over 100 members of the Queens community celebrated the Council Member’s 10th Annual Hispanic & Latinx Leadership Awards at Thalia Spanish Theatre in Sunnyside. The awards ceremony, held every year during Hispanic Heritage Month, recognizes outstanding Hispanic and Latinx community leaders for their service to Queens.

“Hispanic and Latinx community leaders play a critical role in strengthening our borough and enriching the cultural tapestry of our city. For the tenth year, I am proud to honor outstanding Queens community leaders for their dedicated public service and diverse contributions to our neighborhoods. These six distinguished leaders may come from different places and work in various fields, but they all share a deep-rooted commitment to Queens values and community advocacy,” said Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer.

This year, Council Member Van Bramer honored the following leaders for their tireless work on behalf of the community:

Beny Castro, Marketer and Liaison for Sunnyside Shines BID

Kevin Montalvo, Founder of Queens Distance Runners and Race Director of Queens Marathon

Maritza Silva-Farrell, Executive Director of ALIGN NY

Martha Sanchez, Education Activist and Community Organizer

Memo Salazar, Filmmaker, Writer, and Activist

Rosalie Quinones, Queens Community Advocate and former Public School Administrator
