On January 20, 2017, Donald Trump stood on the steps of the Capitol, raised his right hand, and solemnly swore to faithfully execute the office of president of the United States and, to the best of his ability, to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. To many Americans, he has not kept that promise. Congresswomen Pelosi also even accused the president of "disregarding the Constitution of the United States [and] disregarding our commitments to the world in terms of our commitment to NATO, to Paris climate, to our values." But in a line of questions in the Washington Post, the world’s most powerful Democrat states “I’m not for impeachment. This is news. I’m going to give you some news right now because I haven’t said this to any press person before. But since you asked, and I’ve been thinking about this: Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it”. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, made this powerful statement even though there has been increasing calls, including from some of her members, for impeachment of the president.
