New York Fed Appoints René F. Jones to Federal Advisory Council

NEW YORK – The board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York appointed René F. Jones, chairman and chief executive officer of M&T and its principal banking company, M&T Bank, to serve on the Federal Advisory Council for a one-year term beginning January 2019.

Mr. Jones was elected to his position, and to M&T’s board of directors, in December 2017. He joined the bank in 1992 as an executive associate and went on to hold a number of management positions within the Finance Division. He served as M&T’s chief financial officer from 2005 to 2016, was appointed to the management committee in 2005, and named a vice chairman in 2014.

Prior to joining the bank, Mr. Jones held numerous positions at The Group Inc. He began his career at the Boston-based office of Ernst & Young.

Mr. Jones serves on the boards of The Jacobs Institute and the Burchfield Penny Art Center. He also serves on the Massachusetts Historical Society’s Council of Overseers.

Mr. Jones received a bachelor of science (BS) in Management Science from Boston College and a master of business administration (MBA) from the University of Rochester’s Simon School of Business.

The Federal Advisory Council is comprised of one representative from each of the 12 Federal Reserve districts. The members of the Council confer at least four times per year with the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., on economic and banking developments, and make recommendations on Fed system activities. Members customarily serve three one-year terms.
