Vehicle rams into protesters, injures 6 people

Six protesters have been seriously injured in Murray Hill, Manhattan after two women drove through a crowd with a car.

The incident occurred when a group of protesters was marching in solidarity with some detainees at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Bergen County, New Jersey. 

The protesters were passing 3rd Avenue and E39 Street around 4 p.m, when a woman in a blue BMW accelerated through the line, striking six people on Friday December 11, 2020. 

According to mobile app Citizen, a large group of police responded to the scene and blocked off traffic.

Paramedics identified six people injured by the vehicle. At least one person suffered serious injuries with four others suffering minor injuries.
Local media outlets reported that the driver and a passenger were detained by the New York Police Department for questioning.

A video by a Citizen App which was taken around 5 p.m, showed a massive emergency response, with police on bikes and crime scene tape keeping the roads closed. 

Detectives are continuing to investigate.
