The management of Muslim Media Corporation (MMC) in New York has announced the winners of the 2020 Merciful Ambassador Award (MAA). The awardees are Shabbir Gul, the ICNA representative in New York; Zamir Hassan, founder of Muslims Against Hunger; Nurah-Rosalie Amatullah, CEO, Muslim Women’s Institute for Research and Development; and  Muhammed Razvi, Executive Director of Council of People's Organization (COPO).
According to a statement released to the pressmen by the Chief Executive Officer of MMC, Mutiu Olawuyi, this year’s award focuses on individuals and organizations that have continuously engaged themselves in humanitarians services within and outside the United States.
“The selected awardees have proven to us that they are true ambassadors of the ‘Merciful’ God on earth as they have been active in humanitarian services for over two decades, within and beyond the U.S. borders,” Olawuyi said.
In another interview with the Chairman of Muslim Media Corporation, Sheikh Musa Drammeh, it was revealed that even though these selected individuals and their organizations have been actively involved in humanitarian services for over two decades, their humanitarians’ activities became well known and more felt during the covid-19 pandemic.
“The pandemic was not the beginning of the work of the angels within our midst. It rather exposed their long established humanitarian services infrastructures.  The pandemic put a spotlight on the importance of their neighborliness and humanitarian services. Our awardees have decades of feeding the hungers, providing relief to the destitute and removing unbearable burdens from those in dire need, among others,” Drammeh said.
Drammeh further linked the lives and activities of these individuals and organizations to the contents of Makkah Declaration.
“Their purposeful lives exemplify the articulated dictates enshrined in the Makkah Declaration: That we must all be merciful messengers to the world,” he added.
“The award presentation ceremony will take place on May 28th, 2021, in commemoration of Makkah Declaration.
“In addition to this, the ceremony will be colored with presentation of prizes to winners of New York Parrot Creative Writing Contests concerning the "Makkah Declaration," which is open to all creative writers, regardless of age, religion or academic background,” Olawuyi concluded.
