It was the Primary Election Day in New York City on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022. Residents voted in the second primary of the year after the congressional redistricting process pushing back the congressional and State Senate primaries.

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), was seen facing off against fellow democrat Rep. Carolyn Maloney and former Obama staffer Suraj Patel for New York’s 12th Congressional District.

The U.S. special election is being viewed as the last bellwether of the public mood on abortion ahead of November’s midterms, as Democrats seek to make reproductive rights a key issue in the campaign.

Rep. Jerry Nadler spoke to reporters after casting his ballot in the Democratic primary election on Tuesday.

Nadler is running in New York’s 12th Congressional District Democratic primary against Attorney Suraj Patel and Rep. Carolyn Maloney.
