NYC Crime: Man charged with reckless endangerment, others after climbing NYT building
A man climbed the New York Times building and held a small knife to his throat before being arrested Tuesday, police said.
Darrow Erikksan, 31, got about 50 feet up the ladder-like facade of the newspaper’s headquarters at W. 40 St. and Eighth Ave. around 7:30 p.m. said cops and sources.
He held a knife to his throat and threatened to hurt himself, according to police.
Responding officers were able to bring him down to the safety of the street, where he was put under arrest.
Erikksan was charged with reckless endangerment, trespassing and criminal possession of a weapon, cops said.
He was taken to Bellevue Hospital for a psychological evaluation.
The 52-story skyscraper is a popular — and illegal — attraction for daredevil climbers.
In Oct. 2020, a man made it five stories up the building before police pulled him through a window and took him into custody.
