The American Embassy in India has issued an unprecedented 82,000 student visas. More Indian students than any other nation got student visas for the United States.

In order to ensure that as many qualified students as possible arrived at their programmes of study in time for the scheduled start dates, the processing of student visa applications was given priority from May to August at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi and four consulates in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai.

After the delays brought on by the COVID-19 epidemic in past years, Charge d’Affaires Patricia Lacina praised the U.S. Mission in India’s accomplishment, saying, “We are thrilled to see so many students were able to acquire visas and visit their campuses.

This summer alone, we granted more student visas than ever before—over 82,000. This demonstrates that the United States continues to be the top choice for higher education for the majority of Indian households. It also emphasises the significant contributions that students from India make to both of our nations as they form enduring relationships with American peers to uphold and expand international collaborations while cooperating to address present-day and upcoming global concerns.

Don Heflin, Minister Counselor for Consular Affairs, stated, “We are delighted to have done our share to support Indian students in pursuing a top-notch education.

I hope there are a lot of content parents and kids out there. American diplomacy places a high priority on international student mobility, and nowhere is this more evident than in India. Wishing the students of this year the best of success in their studies!

According to the Open Doors report from 2021, there were 167,582 Indian students in the 2020–2021 academic year, making up approximately 20 percent of all international students studying in the United States.

Throughout the COVID-19 epidemic, the United States has continued to be accessible and friendly to overseas students. In order to ensure that opportunities and resources for foreign students continued to be robust, the U.S. government and U.S. higher education institutions adopted efforts to securely welcome international students in person, online, and via hybrid learning techniques in 2020.
