US says Iran assisting base attacks in Iraq
The United States has accused Iran of actively facilitating attacks on US bases in Iraq. They also confirmed sending a small number of military advisors to Israel amid rising concerns about the Israel-Hamas conflict.
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby stated that Iran continues to support groups like Hamas and Hezbollah and may be actively involved in encouraging attacks on US bases in Iraq. The US is determined not to allow Iran to maintain deniability in these actions.
President Biden’s administration had previously seen a period of relative calm with pro-Iranian militias in the region, but recent attacks on Iraqi military bases have heightened tensions.
The United States has promised significant defense aid to Israel and has also sent military advisors to share their expertise in the operations Israel is conducting. Despite calls for a ceasefire, the US has rejected the idea, asserting Israel’s right to self-defense.
