In a shocking incident that unfolded during a Thanksgiving gathering in Burlington, Vermont, three college students of Palestinian descent,</strong> including two American citizens, were shot.
President Joe Biden, expressing deep concern, condemned the act of violence and offered heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families.
President Biden, alongside First Lady Jill Biden, conveyed their horror at the situation, stating, “Jill and I were horrified to learn that three college students of Palestinian descent, two of whom are American citizens, were shot Saturday in Burlington, Vermont. They were simply spending Thanksgiving gathered with family and loved ones.”
In his address, Biden underscored the importance of unity and unequivocally denounced violence, saying, “While we are waiting for more facts, we know this: there is absolutely no place for violence or hate in America. Period. No person should worry about being shot at while going about their daily lives.”
Acknowledging the broader issue of gun violence in the country, the President added, “And far too many Americans know a family member injured or killed as a result of gun violence. We cannot and we will not accept that.”
President Biden assured the nation that the federal government would actively support the investigation into the incident.
He confirmed, “Earlier today, I spoke to Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger to offer my support. We are grateful to the Burlington Police Department – as well as the FBI, ATF, and other law enforcement partners – for their swift work identifying and arresting a suspect. Our Administration will provide any additional federal resources needed to assist in the investigation.”
Amidst a somber atmosphere as the nation mourns this senseless act of violence, President Biden emphasized the commitment to combating hate and ensuring the safety of all Americans, regardless of their background or descent.
The incident in Vermont serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges related to gun violence, prompting renewed calls for unity and comprehensive efforts to address this pervasive issue.
