In a resolute rebuttal to baseless accusations linking him to a ship collision that caused the Francis Scott Key Bridge to collapse, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott has slammed racist Republicans for their egregious and racially charged blame game.

The mayor, renowned for his commitment to diversity and equality, firmly stood his ground against what he described as a campaign to vilify Black leadership.

During a recent appearance on MSNBC, Mayor Scott addressed the insidious undertones of the attacks, highlighting the historical targeting of Black men, especially in positions of authority.

“I know, and we know, and you know very well that Black men, and young Black men in particular, have been the bogeyman for those who are racist,” he emphasized, challenging the divisive rhetoric of his critics.

The accusations weren’t isolated to grassroots Republicans; prominent figures like Utah State Representative Phil Lyman and congressional candidate Anthony Sabatini also joined the chorus of unfounded blame, using the guise of “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” (DEI) to veil their racial bias.

“DEI, which stands for ‘Diversity, equity, and inclusion,’ has quickly become an obsession in right-wing circles, as they attempt to blame every problem on diversity,” Mayor Scott explained, underscoring the misappropriation of the term to perpetuate bigotry.

In a poignant reflection on the persistent demonization of Black leadership, Mayor Scott asserted, “We’ve been the bogeyman for them since the first day they brought us to this country.” He confronted the underlying prejudice masked by coded language, stating, “What they mean by DEI in my opinion is duly elected incumbent.”

Undeterred by the vitriol, Mayor Scott reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to his community and heritage. “I am very proud of my heritage and who I am and where I come from scares them,” he declared, highlighting the threat his presence poses to entrenched systems of inequality.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead in rebuilding efforts, Mayor Scott emphasized unity and resilience. “We’re ignoring all the conspiracy theorists, everyone who’s playing bridge engineer at home,” he quipped, dismissing baseless speculation surrounding the bridge collapse.

In the face of adversity, Mayor Brandon Scott’s steadfast response exemplifies a leader unyielding to racist smears and focused on revitalizing Baltimore’s spirit. As the city rallies together in the wake of tragedy, Mayor Scott’s resolve serves as a beacon of hope and solidarity, underscoring the resilience of a community united against division and bigotry.
